Two hundred and twenty eight inmates have broken free from a prison in Kogi after a flood caused by heavy downpour of rain led to the collapse of Koton Karfe custodial centre. All the inmates escaped.
Jaafaru Ahmend, Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Services, confiremed the incident. He said the flood happened at about 3am on Monday 28th of October.
Jaafaru however stated that with the combined effort of security agencies in the area, over 100 of the inmates had been rearrested and evacuated to another facility.
